The Congress of Black Women of Canada – Ontario Region – Toronto and area chapter launched on January 11, 2025. It is important to note that a Toronto Chapter existed from 1982 to 1998. Since 2015 CBWO members, whenever they are out in the community the question as to why no Toronto chapter was constant. With the response given … the next question was …why not revive a chapter in the Toronto area?
In 2023, CBWO embarked on an intense membership drive for all the locations where we have a chapter. From the response received it was evident that several women were interested in joining the organization. There was, again, requests for a chapter in Toronto. With this data, CBWO seized the opportunity to strategize on relaunching the Toronto and Area Chapter.
The Toronto and area chapter is part of the family of CBWO chapters across Ontario. This chapter, like all the other chapters, has a mission to provide a forum for Black Woman to identify and address challenges that impact them, their families, and their community. This dynamic group of leaders will plan and implement programs and activities that support the wellbeing of the Toronto and Area community.
The Congress of Black Women of Canada, Toronto Chapter, is offering $1,000 scholarship awards to graduating Grade 12 students who self-identify as Black, and are pursuing full-time post-secondary studies in the Fall semester of the upcoming academic year.
